Introduction to chemistry unite we learned a lot about matter, atoms, elements, pure substances, and the Periodic Table. Matter : Matter is anything and everything around you, matter is anything that has mass or volume.
There are also different states that matter can change from liquid, gas, and solid. Atoms : An atom is the smallest particle that an element can be divided into and still remain the same substance, the name atom originated from a greek philosopher named Democritus, it came from a greek work, 'atomos' meaning indivisible. Elements : An element is a pure substance, which can't be physically or chemically broken apart. Pure Substances : A pure substance is a substance that is composed of two types of particle The Periodic Table : The period table has many parts to it. The periodic table is organized numerically by the number of protons that are inside the elements atom. The table hold as many elements as 259. The periodic table shows the atomic number (the number of protons in an atom), the name of the element, the elements symbol, and its atomic mass. The table is also organized into groups metals, matalloids, and Non-metals. Metals :
The metals can conduct electricity, are malleable (squished/flattened), can conduct heat, and are ductile (bendable), and shiny.
Metalloids :
Metalloids are semi-conductors, it varies according to the metal briel.
Non- Metals :
Non- metals can't conduct electricity or heat, they are brittle (breakable), and are dull.
